Two roads lead from Cerkno to Vrše

     The first road leads from Cerkno to village Novaki. Follow notice boards which mark Ski Center Cerkno in Črni Vrh. When you arrive to the notice sign which shows the way to Železniki, follow it to the sedlle, where there is a parking place for Ski Center Cerkno. Then go via the only road which turns upwards left. The road will lead you over a mountain crest to the sedlle which is called Razpotje (crossroads), there is a notice board which shows the way to the mountain Porezen. Go straight ahead via the only one road which goes upwards towards a farm on the edge of a forest, then forward and upwards through shady side of crest which ends in Vrše. In front of you, you will see a flat plateau which ends towards south with a steep slope. Here you are on the lower start, the start number one. The start is situated on the left side of the exposed crest in the direction SW, right upwards cca 15 min. By walking over the crest you come to the upper plateau which ends with a very steep slope. There is our upper starting place from Vrše.

     Second road which leads to Vrše is a short cut. It is steeper, but makes a possible quick ascent to the start. From Cerkno you must go via a road from village Poče, direction north. Road signs will lead you to village Poče. From here a very good marked footway to Porezen starts. It takes one hour walking to the start places that is why I recommend that you go past fire station, which is situated cca. 150 m away from a smaller parking place. There you go via the road which turns right behind a house which you see in front of  you. Right after that there is one short ascent, immediately after that there is one short descent which repeats a couple of times. Go to the main road and don't look out for small roads which lead in the woods. You will come to the crossroad where one way goes straight and downwards, the second goes sharp left and upwards - this is the right one. It will lead you to the sedlle where you will see a sign Planinska Koča (mountain hut), which shows left upwards. From here it takes 30 min by foot. You can continue throw the wood via wood path which ends at the farm "Pr Brejcu" where you must turn left upwards. Cca. 2 km steep asscent will lead you to the crossroad Razpotje. From there the way is described in the upper paragraph.

Landing Places:

       There are two landing places: the first one is near a gas station, on the left side of the road, immediately when we come to Cerkno from the direction Idrija. But this landing place is not official and it's not recommended for inexperienced pilots. There is namely not a lot of space for landing.  

 The second official landing place is near village Gorje. This one is suitable for all kind of pilots.

Črni vrh

Start  Črni vrh is located on the top of south massif Črni vrh. The start is on the edge of the ski ground, on the top of the ski slope Grič and is a very gentle sloping which is not appropriate for beginners, especially if the wind is bad. In summer it is very thermal, but in winter you can't expect a good flight only on dynamic.

The access to the ski ground is very well marked. From Cerkno we follow the traffic signs for the ski centre. In winter the access is very easy with a ski lift. In summer we pass the chair lift Počivalo and the restaurant on the ski slope.

The starting place is 50 m upwards the road near a ramp.

The landing place is in the LOG village. When we come to the LOG village we must take the road which leads for Franja Hospital (Bolnica Franja). You can land on both sides of the road. The landing is very small, therefore it is not recommended for beginners.

When we first see it, it seems an insignificant hill facing the SZ part of the Cerkno valley.

The start is located above the village Gorje which is compressed on the top edge of  »JEMČEVA GMAJNA« The start is smooth and has a steep slope,  and is good even when the wind conditions are not good.

We can reach it if we take the road from Cerkno in the direction of the village Gorje. When we come to Gorje we must turn (upwards) right and go to the end of the asphalt road. There is an about 500m steep slope. When we come o top of it we can see a wood clearing on the right side, which is the start.

The landing place is 50m lower and it is suitable for all kinds of pilots.

Jelenk

Jelenk is mountainous massif which faces the JZ part on the confluence of Kanomljica and Idrijca rivers from Spodnja Idrija. The speciality of this start is the fact that we can fly around here even when »burja«(a very strong wind changing direction and is jerky) doesn't allow the flying nowhere in the Western Slovenia. Here we can usually fly if E winds are weak, and, when the thermic is very strong even in the presence of W winds.

The start is very gentle. On the left side there are many bushes and lower there is one telephone cable. The look from the sky down on the valley, searching for landing places, is not very encouraging.

We can reach it from Spodnja Idrija towards Krnice village. Just before the top there is one macadam road which, on the right side, turns upwards the hill. We come to the lonely farm where we can see the start.

Start is on Kobala 4 km E from Tolmin. Start is grassy and it is for all cind of pilots. Acces is from Tolmin-Poljubinj-Ljubinj - Alpine meadow Stador and then 5-10 min. walk or with car 800m macadam road.

Landings are official around Tolmin. This is very good point of departure for long flights.
